7 Personal Self-Care Ideas You Should Try

It’s been a while since I’ve asked this question but what’s your favorite way to self-care? Since the beginning of the year I’ve been providing a list of self-care categories each month with self-care options that fall in said category and I’m wondering if you know at this point which self-care category suits you best? I’ve said this a few times since I’ve written these blogs, my favorite way to self-care is based on what I need at the moment and I’ve fallen into a few of the monthly categories on several self-care occasions. I believe this is the final Saturday for the personal self-care focus and I want to leave you with a list of ideas that I’m assuming most people may not consider or would be afraid to try. This will be tricky because I feel like some potential options were used as self-care ideas earlier in the month. For example, I think a Brazilian wax would be a self-care idea that would make sense for this week’s topic.

Personal self-care can easily become risqué to openly discuss because you can really start to get into some things that you do, but you don’t want others to know you do it. Additionally, I don’t want my readers to look at my post side ways and start to think “what on earth is she into?!?” lol. I want to keep it classy while honoring the purpose of this self-care category.

V-STEAM I personally have not done this before and if you’re not familia, a v-steam is vaginal steaming or yoni steaming is steaming water that contains herbs such as mugwort, basil, and rosemary and is said to cleanse the vagina and the uterus to regulate or cycle and to ease cramps and bloating.

REIKI when I lived in Pennsylvania I use to get reiki done often to help balance my chakras. Some people may not believe in this type of practice and if you share it with them, they may have negative opinions and question it’s validity (hence the reason I consider this personal self-care). Whenever I feel off I always assume my chakras might be out of line and reiki helps to create that balance. In my mind it worked and it wasn’t something that I would share with everyone when I got it done.

LASER TREATMENT this is probably an expensive one. I know there are a few things that fall into this arena like getting your moles remove or some form of laser hair treatment. If you’ve considered getting this done but you’re still on the fence, I’m sure you can schedule a free consultation somewhere to learn more. A lot of these treatments are probably gradual and folks will likely not realize you had anything done right away.

PLASTIC SURGERY I’m not against anything that anyone wants to get done to benefit them. I’m not referring to anything drastic here, it can be something small like removing crows feet or rectifying a deformity that occurred after getting into a bad accident.

A KINK try something kinky in the bedroom alone or with your partner. The possibilities can be endless with this one. Maybe it’s something you’ve been considered but haven’t been bold enough try it yet. Even if you’re not willing to take that big step, start small and talk to your partner about it and ease your way into it.

WRITE TO YOURSELF this can be a love letter to you or a letter forgiving yourself (or someone). No one has to see this and no one has to know. This activity has its benefits, it’s the opportunity for you to let go of something that you may have been holding on to for a while and it can be an opportunity for you to finally accept and love yourself.

LET GO OF THE SHAME this really isn’t a form of self-care but I guess it can be. I wanted to include this because like I mentioned in the first paragraph, personal self-care can be a bit risqué and some people usually shy away from this because of embarrassment or shame. I know it’s not easy to give in if you feel shy or uncomfortable but start playing with the idea of allowing yourself to step outside your comfort zone a bit. Even if you’re not ready to engage in personal self-care activity you can do some research. Remember, no one has to know, it’s personal.

Self-Care on the go are essentially bite size versions of my self-care challenges. It’s open to anyone but it’s specifically created for moms and other working women; who may not have time to participate in all (or any) of the challenges that I provide weekly because of their mommy duties or busy work schedule. You can access the infographic HERE. I’ve been posting them every Sunday since the beginning of the year and I really enjoy creating them. If you’re one of my readers who participate in, or enjoy these options because you find them convenient, leave a comment and let me know what you like about them or what you think I should change. Thanks for going on this self-care journey again with me this week.

I have a long history with mental illness. Overcoming depression made me realize my own resilience. It also made it clear that I wasn’t taking care of myself. I believe that in order for us to fully engage with ourselves and others we have to make time for self-love through our self-care habits. My goal with this blog is to encourage women in my age group to make time for self-care daily.
