I feel like it’s been a while since I’ve provided a list of traditional self-care challenges for each day of the week but I also like that my approach to self-care has evolved. Not only do I give you a list of challenges, I also provide how you can be receptive to self-care, how to close out affirmations, and how you can use them each week. In essence, I always try to get you to look at self-care through a different lens. I’m sure it’s not the first time you’ve heard me say this but it’s been a challenge each week for me as well. Honestly, every week I sit in front of my laptop and ask myself “what am I going to write about today?” Even though I know what my topic is for the month, the weekly break down is always a surprise, the post evolves as I type. This week, and probably for the rest of the month, I want my emotional self-care challenges to focus on something specific. For example, this week is journal topics, next week might be different forms of meditation, etc.
In the past I’ve mentioned that journaling is like having a conversation with a best friend. You can share what you want without fear of any judgement or unwarranted advice. Although I don’t do it often, I love journaling for the obvious reasons, it helps me get a lot off my chest, I can be completely transparent, and I can share without the fear of anyone else learning my secrets. In addition to journals being our best friends, I think it’s also a form of therapy. Journaling is emotionally healthy and I think we should all practice it consistently. For this week’s challenge, I’m providing a list of journal prompts that we can use each day this week to help with continuing to work on our emotional self-care.
Sunday–How Are You Feeling Today? Today I’m encouraging you to write about how you feel at the moment or in general. Also, if there’s something that’s been sitting on your mind for awhile but you can’t quite figure out what it is, journal about the struggles with that.
Monday–What Makes You Angry? If you’re not angry today you can still work on this prompt. Talk about the things that really upset you and what methods you use to help you combat those feelings.
Tuesday–What Makes You Happy? Similar to yesterday’s challenge, talk about the things that make you happy and if you use any of those factors to help you when you feel sad or angry.
Wednesday–How Did Your Day Go Today? Journal about your day and how it made you feel. Discuss any challenges you had and how you overcame.
Thursday–What Challenges Did You Face Today? Talk about any challenges you may have faced today and how it made you feel, what you did to get through it, and how you plan on handling the situation when/if it occurs again in the future.
Friday–What’s Something You’re Currently Struggling With That You’re Afraid To Share With Others? Today’s prompt is a perfect example of what I mean when I say that journaling is like your best friend. This is the opportunity for you to let it all out because you don’t have to hold on to fear of judgement or lack of trust.
Saturday–What Was This Journaling Experience Like For You? Reflect on your week of journaling and talk about what the experience was like for you. Did anything new come up? Do you feel more connected to yourself and your feelings? Was it therapeutic? If you don’t journal consistently, do you think this experience will change that.
Self-Care on the go are essentially bite size versions of my self-care challenges. It’s open to anyone but it’s specifically created for moms and other working women; who may not have time to participate in all (or any) of the challenges that I provide weekly because of their mommy duties or busy work schedule.
