This month of affirmations has been one of my favorites by far because it allowed me to be creative with the ways I chose to present my challenges for the month. I mentioned at the beginning of March that the challenge ideas were going to be a challenge for me because I wasn’t sure how I was going work Words of Affirmations into a list of self-care challenge ideas, but I did it. They weren’t my traditional list of self-care challenges for the week, but I’d like to think that they allowed us to look at self-care through a new lens. Because self-care can stretch far beyond daily self-care activities and, if you’ve never been a person who used affirmations, for this month I not only gave you a list of affirmations that you can use, but I talked you through the process of how to use them to reap the benefits and manifest each affirmations.
As we close out this month’s self-care love language focus of Words of Affirmations, I had a difficult time thinking about what I was going to do to finish the month. I gave you affirmations to use for each day, affirmations to use for each week, and affirmations you can use when you do a self-care detox. So I said to myself, “what else is there to talk about, how can I close out the month?” And that’s when it dawned on me, close out the month, I can close out the affirmations. As stated in the title, I’ve created methods you can use to close out affirmations once you no longer need the benefits. Don’t get me wrong, affirmations are timeless and you can always use them, because they don’t expire but maybe some of you are ready to move on and try something new, or maybe you’re no longer getting what you need from a particular affirmation. If you fall into any of these categories, then keep reading. Of course you can just stop using the affirmation but the list I created will allow you to honor the affirmations after it has served you, these options are almost like a ceremonial process of closing something out.
START A NEW AFFIRMATION–after you’ve reaped the benefits, move on to a new one using the same steps you used with the old affirmation, to help you manifest the new one. This option is very similar to what I mentioned above when I stated that you can just stop. But instead of just stopping, you’re replacing the old one with something new.
YOU’VE ALREADY MANIFEST THE BENEFITS–if you’ve already gotten what you needed then it’s time to let it go. This may not be permanent, if for some reason you feel like you need the affirmation again, you can always re-introduce it in your life or use parts of the affirmation phrase to help you along your journey.
HONOR IT THROUGH JOURNALING–if your affirmation was really special to you or if it was really powerful, you can honor it by writing about it in a journal post. You can talk about why you started it, what it did for you, how it made you feel, and when you realized that it was starting to make changes in your life.
SHARE IT WITH A FRIEND–again, if your affirmation really worked out well for you, share the benefits with a friend, family member, a stranger, your social media platform, etc. Another option would be to write it on a note and leave it somewhere random for someone else. You may change someone’s life by doing this so I highly recommend it.
IT’S NOT REALLY RESONATING WITH YOU–maybe you’re just not feeling it. You gave it a fair shot but for some reason it’s not working for you, and that’s okay because I’m sure this is normal. Not everything is for us. If this is case for you, search for a new one until you find the one that works for you. I’m sure there are a list of affirmations that will bring forth the changes you seek.
RELEASE IT THROUGH A MINDFULNESS PRACTICE (TRY THE TONGLEN PRACTICE)–here’s where the ceremonial aspect I mentioned earlier comes into play. If you’re not familiar with tonglen meditation (also known as “taking and sending”), it’s a practice where you inhale the pain of others, and sending them whatever will benefit them when you exhale. You can read more about it on this site. You can modify this practice to release your affirmation by inhaling the hurt, harm, trauma, etc that’s going on in the world and on your exhale repeat your affirmation in your head and the benefits that you received from it. This option is an incredibly powerful way to release your affirmations in my opinion. If you need a visual, hopefully the video below will help you.
IT’S NO LONGER RESONATING WITH YOU–maybe you were using this affirmation for a while but suddenly you noticed that it’s not doing what it use to do for you, you no longer get the same feeling when you use it. If this is the case, then it’s time to move on and try something new. Or maybe there is a way you can re-vamp it (change some of the words), or you can take a break from it for awhile and come back to it at a later time.
I encourage you to try some or all of these if you are an avid affirmation user and need a change with your process. In case you feel cheated out of self-care challenges for this week, check out the affirmation for week two from last week’s challenges:
Week 2–“I WILL MAKE PROGRESS TOWARDS MY GOALS” this is the perfect affirmation to use for the week if you never get through your to do list or if you have a goal that you can’t seem to accomplish. This week’s affirmation is the universe’s way of pushing you towards getting things (or something) done. Be intentional this week with your affirmation, but I wouldn’t suggest overwhelming yourself by trying to get several large goals out of the way (but if you can, go for it). I also want to mention that small progress is better than no progress, so give yourself credit even if you didn’t achieve. As long as you put in some real effort and tried. Time for my favorite part of this blog post lol. The Self-Care on the Go paragraph. They are essentially bite size versions of my self-care challenges. It’s open to anyone but its’ specifically created for moms and other working women who may not have time to participate in all (or any) of the challenges above, because of their mommy duties or busy work schedule.
