Super Simple Design Ideas For Your Work From Home Space

This will probably not apply to everyone but don’t let that discourage you, just continue reading.  I know there are a lot of people who’ve worked from home before the pandemic and have likely surpassed the information I’m planning on sharing.  After working from home for several months, I decided to create a more inviting workspace something simple, inexpensive and encouraging.

  • Flowers—about a year ago I decided that I wanted to start buying fresh flowers for myself weekly because fresh flowers make me feel good and they make me smile.  If fresh flowers aren’t your thing you can probably get a really nice faux arrangement or create your own if you’re a creative person.

  • Desk/Table Décor—I think this option is my favorite because the possibilities are endless.  Stores like TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Home Goods and Burlington carry so many of these décor items at a very low cost.  The great thing about these are you can likely find something that will match anyone’s personal style and or taste.

  • Candles—Another favorite.  And you can also find these at the stores listed above at a very low cost.  Years ago I use to purchase candles to match the scent that I associated with each season and I use to burn a candle in every single room in my apartment (literally). Candles also make me feel good and it’s not just because of the amazing scents, there’s something about them that resonates with my spirit and energy.  I always have one burning.
  • Candy Dish—this doesn’t have to be a dish or a dish with candy in it.  I chose candy because it’s Halloween but you can place anything in this dish.  A healthy snack, beauty products such as lip gloss, nail file, your phone, etc. I’ve also used stemless wine glasses and other unconventional options to serve the purpose.
  • Aromatherapy Diffuser—I personally wouldn’t use this at the same time the candle is burning because I would be overwhelmed by two different smells but depending on the type you get, this diffuser is also a great decorative item.  This option would be great if you’re having a stressful day because aromatherapy oils are great for de-stressing and relaxation.

  • Stacked books—It’s just a great touch to any workspace, and if you’re an avid reader you’ll definitely appreciate it.  I recommend using books with positive quotes or affirmations.  Something you can grab and read as a pick me up if you’re having a rough day.

I believe that the energy we create on the outside has an effect on how we feel on the inside.  The goal here is to set up a workspace (in my case it’s just a desk) that will help create a healthy balance between my work day and working in isolation.  Try to keep this area simple chic and clean at all times.  If you’re space is constantly cluttered it will probably negatively affect your mood.  Self-care is everything and it’s hidden in a lot of the small things that we do for ourselves.  Get into it.

I have a long history with mental illness. Overcoming depression made me realize my own resilience. It also made it clear that I wasn’t taking care of myself. I believe that in order for us to fully engage with ourselves and others we have to make time for self-love through our self-care habits. My goal with this blog is to encourage women in my age group to make time for self-care daily.
